Background noise and echo.
A speech model keeps the voice's full range and lowers what surrounds it. Echo gets its own reducer, which works through longer recordings about 20 seconds at a time. Both were chosen by measurement.

Background noise
Solipsium measures the noise and hum in a recording before it changes anything, and tells you what it found.
Drop a noisy recording here
Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, hum and noise, without uploading it. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.
WAV, MP3, M4A, video and more, up to five minutes.
After signing up, drop the same file into the editor to repair all of it.
Then drop the same file into the editor. Scans and short repairs are free.
How it works
The check in your browser names what it hears and when: background noise, mains hum, clipping, dropouts or muffled sound. The repair of the first 20 seconds measures again on Solipsium's server and lists the reasons for what it does. Clicks are left for the editor's Clicks button.

Mains hum at 50 or 60 Hz and its harmonics, found by measurement and notched out in bands a few hertz wide.
When the try finds a steady noise floor, its result can read: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.” When it finds hum: “Mains hum was found, so it is notched out before any cleanup.” Then switch between Original and Repaired as they play.
Questions
It can: cleanup that goes too far thins a voice. Try the first 20 seconds and switch between Original and Repaired as they play; both run on one clock, so the switch lands on the same word.
Usually because the cleanup took part of the voice along with the noise. Listen before you keep anything: compare Original and Repaired on the same words, and keep the original if the voice sounds worse.
Drop the video file here, as MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM. The check reads its sound when your browser can open it and the video is five minutes or shorter, and the try can repair the first 20 seconds of that sound. For the whole sound track, make a free account: the editor repairs the audio while you watch the picture in sync, and a video export keeps the original picture with your repaired audio track.
Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends audio. When your browser opened the file, only its first 20 seconds leave this browser; Solipsium repairs them on its server and deletes them within an hour. When it could not open the file, or the file runs longer than five minutes, the file itself, up to 25 MB, goes to Solipsium's server, which keeps only its first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. Solipsium does not train models on your recordings, and what you save is private to your account.
Not for the check or the try: the try is free and needs no account. To repair a whole recording and keep your repairs, make a free account, with no card.
