SOLIPSIUM Super resolution audio engine

Free voice recorder

Record your voice in the browser.

Press Record, speak, press Stop. Play it back, save a WAV or an MP3, and see whether the take has background noise, hum or clipping.

Time recorded: 0:00

Up to 30 minutes a take

The recording stays in this tab until you download it. It is not uploaded unless you press Repair the first 20 seconds, which appears after the check.

How it works

Three presses, then a file.

It needs no install and no account. The page asks your browser to turn off its own echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain, and tells you if any of them were left on or not reported.

Press Record and allow the microphone.

Your browser asks before the first take, and some ask every time. Speak at your usual distance and watch the meter: the loudest words should fill most of it without reaching the end.

Press Stop and listen back.

Play the take here, then save it as a WAV, uncompressed and ready for any editor, or as a 192 kbps MP3 that is easier to send.

See whether the take is usable.

Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, dropouts, hum, background noise and very quiet sound. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.

Questions

Before you record.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not unless you ask. It is made and kept in this tab, and the quick check runs in your browser too. Closing the tab discards the take unless you downloaded it. Audio leaves only if you press Repair the first 20 seconds. This is free and needs no account. Only its first 20 seconds leave this browser; Solipsium repairs them on its server and deletes them within an hour.

Why can't I record, or why is the take silent?

Your browser needs permission to use the microphone on this page. If you declined, allow it in the site settings beside the address bar, then press Record again. If the meter does not move, choose the right microphone in your computer's or phone's sound settings, and close any other app that is using it.

What format does it save?

A WAV file: mono, 16-bit, at the rate your browser records at, usually 48 kHz. Or an MP3 at 192 kbps, about a quarter of the size, made in your browser with lamejs. The WAV is uncompressed and opens in any audio editor; the MP3 is easier to send.

Does the browser change my voice while recording?

This page asks it not to: it asks the browser to turn off its echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain, and the line under the meter says which ones were left on or not reported. Safari lets a page turn off only echo cancellation. Settings outside the browser, such as a voice isolation mode on a Mac or iPhone or a sound enhancement in Windows, can still change the sound before this page receives it.

How long can a recording be?

Up to 30 minutes a take; it stops by itself there. The take is held in your browser's memory until you leave the page or press Record again, so on an older phone keep takes short and download each one. The quick check listens to the first five minutes of a longer take; the downloads always hold all of it.

Have an older recording that is hard to hear?

Voicemails, voice memos and tape transfers: drop one on the family recordings page to see what Solipsium hears and hear its first 20 seconds repaired.

Check a recording

The check and the 20-second try need no account.
