SOLIPSIUMAlpha

Privacy, in plain words.

This notice describes the current alpha: what stays in your browser, what is uploaded, and what the application keeps. The website runs on Modal, a cloud computing provider. The account database is copied once a day; recordings are not backed up.

Updated October 23, 2026. Support and privacy requests: support@solipsium.com.

Who is responsible

Solipsium is operated by its founder, H. Hassan, in Ontario, Canada. It is not incorporated. The operator is responsible for handling privacy requests at the address above. If you run your own installation, you control its files, hosting and backups.

Solipsium Live, the browser extension

Solipsium Live is not yet published in the Chrome Web Store. This section describes what the current build of the extension does with audio and what it stores.

Solipsium Live processes the sound of the tab you choose, after you open its toolbar button and press Enhance this tab. Audio is processed and played on your computer. The extension does not upload audio, save recordings, use audio for training, or send analytics. It does not capture your microphone, read page text or images, or inspect your browsing history. Its scripts, models, fonts and guide are included in the installation.

The extension keeps small audio buffers and the last minute of estimated sound categories in memory while it runs. Stop, closing the captured tab, or closing the browser ends capture and discards those buffers and categories. It remembers your mode and cleanup amount in local extension storage. The active tab ID, a random capture ID and any capture error use temporary browser session storage; they are cleared when capture stops, except an error may remain until your next start, Stop or browser session. Removing the extension deletes its stored preferences.

No extension audio or category history is sent to Solipsium or another recipient. No account, payment or advertising identifier is required. The website and editor practices below apply when you separately use those services; their server analytics do not run inside the extension. Solipsium Live uses information obtained through Chrome APIs only to provide the selected-tab audio feature, in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It does not sell that information or use it for advertising, lending or unrelated purposes.

Before a recording leaves your device

The homepage's quick check examines the recording in your browser. Choosing a file there does not upload it. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds does: it sends those 20 seconds, or the whole file when your browser cannot open it, and the try is deleted within an hour and never used for anything else. Importing a recording into an editor, submitting a delivery check or using Quick restore uploads it to Solipsium's server on Modal. When server video enhancement is enabled, choosing it uploads the whole video, picture and sound, to that server too.

The free audio tools also work in your browser. A file chosen on the converter, editing, recorder, measuring, video and image tool pages is not uploaded. The repair pages, such as the ones for background noise, hum, a voice memo or a voicemail, use the homepage's drop box, which behaves as described above; for a signed-in member it imports the recording into the editor. The voice recorder asks your browser for the microphone and keeps the recording in that tab until you download it. On every tool page, only pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends audio for the try.

The video enhancer works in your browser too. It enlarges and sharpens the picture on your computer's graphics chip, and the video you choose is not uploaded. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends some of the video's sound, never the picture, and Solipsium keeps only its first 20 seconds, handled as a try from the homepage. Only server video enhancement, described above, uploads the picture. Neither the browser enhancer nor the server's picture model detects or recognises faces; each enlarges every frame the same way.

The application does not use uploaded recordings or videos to train models. Solipsium does not sell recordings or personal information, and does not use advertising trackers. The operator may access stored information when needed to provide support you request, maintain the service, investigate misuse or meet a legal obligation.

What the application stores

Account and sign-inYour username, salted password hash, account status and creation time. No name or email is requested at signup. Session tokens are stored as one-way fingerprints and expire after twelve hours or thirty minutes of inactivity, with at most five sessions per account.
Editor workImported media, decoded audio, video tracks, timelines, repair previews, exports, delivery reports and any repair ratings you submit. Saved delivery requirements contain the names and numbers you enter. These are restricted to your account through the application's access controls.
Tries from the homepageThe first 20 seconds of a recording and their repair, with no account or file name attached. The upload itself is deleted as soon as those seconds are read; the rest is refused after half an hour and deleted within the hour. A usage event records which damage was found and whether anything changed.
Quick restore and delivery checksThe uploaded file and its results. These become eligible for cleanup seven days after upload. Removal happens when the cleanup task runs, not necessarily at the exact seven-day mark; a self-hosted operator must schedule that task.
Server video enhancementOnly when the operator enables it: the uploaded video, its measured length, picture size and frame rate, whether you chose to repair or keep the sound, the credits spent, the job's progress and any error, and the enhanced video. The upload is deleted when the job ends, whether it finished, failed or was cancelled. The enhanced video can be downloaded only from your account, for 24 hours after the job ends, and is refused after that. A cleanup that runs once a day then deletes the job's files, so they can stay on the server up to a day longer. The credit ledger keeps the spending and any refund.
Credits and paymentsCredit grants, spending and refunds. If payments are enabled, plan status and Stripe customer, subscription and transaction references are stored. Card numbers are handled by Stripe, not by this application.
Security and usage limitsAttempt counts associated with an account or internet address. They expire according to the applicable limit, generally within a day, and expired rows are removed during later limit checks.
LogsRequest times, addresses, routes, status codes and operational errors. Security records of failed sign-ins and account changes also hold the account's username or ID. On the hosted site, Modal keeps the logs; how long it keeps them has not been confirmed. Retention depends on the installation. The Docker setup supplied for running your own copy rotates container logs by size; it does not guarantee a particular number of days.

External API access and batch integrations are deferred. If an installation previously issued keys, their names, fingerprints and use timestamps remain until revoked records rotate out or the account is deleted. Disabling the API prevents those keys from being used, but does not erase their records.

Usage analytics are event records

The server records page visits, sample plays and product actions to understand usage and failures. Records include the time, action, relevant plan or processing details, referral information, a daily visitor code derived from the internet address and browser, and a stable account code for signed-in members. The application also records reported browser processing capabilities. A browser loading the video enhancer's code is counted, on its own page or on the old home video page, which runs the same code. So is each press of Enlarge, with the Picture, Detail, Sharpen, Keep grain, Size and video format choices made, and each click on the offer of Solipsium's servers. The sharpen video page counts each press of its Sharpen the video button the same way, with the Sharpen and video format choices. Nothing from the video is sent. An accepted server video job is recorded like other product actions.

These codes are pseudonymous, which does not guarantee anonymity. No analytics cookie or third-party analytics service is used. Each event is stored individually, so the records hold more than totals. On the hosted site each day's event file is deleted 90 days after that day by the cleanup task, which runs every fifteen minutes; the events are not erased earlier when an account is deleted. A copy you run yourself keeps them until its operator sets a window.

Cookies and browser storage

Signing in sets a session cookie and a cookie used to protect changes against forged requests. On HTTPS their names are __Host-solipsium_session and __Host-solipsium_csrf; local HTTP installations use the same names without the prefix. The session cookie cannot be read by page scripts. Signing out removes both.

Signing in also sets __Host-solipsium_known (without the prefix on local HTTP), which tells the server that this browser has signed in to the account before, so other people typing wrong passwords for your username cannot stop you signing in from it. It holds a random number and a code made from it and your account, not your password, is replaced at each sign-in, cannot be read by page scripts, stops working when the password changes, and stays for 180 days, also after signing out. You can remove it through your browser settings.

Browser storage also remembers editor panel sizes, whether you use the guide, recent Quick restore entries, acknowledgement of the alpha notice and whether you paused the home page's moving light. Those preferences remain on that browser. In a browser without a save window, the video enhancer writes the enlarged video into this site's storage in that browser, and keeps the last one there until you enlarge another or clear the site's data; it is not sent anywhere. The other video tools do the same with the video each one makes, keeping the last one for each tool. You can clear them through your browser settings; doing so does not delete server files. These uses are described here without claiming that all storage or analytics is exempt from consent requirements in every country.

Providers and processing locations

Solipsium's website runs on Modal (Modal Labs), a cloud computing provider. Modal stores uploads, tries, editor projects, delivery checks, usage events and the account database on its disks. It runs the website and its repairs, including AudioSR on a GPU for Quick restore and, in the editors, for Studio and Detail passages and the Hollywood edit's optional detail rebuild. When server video enhancement is enabled, Modal also stores those videos and runs their picture model, Real-ESRGAN's realesr-general-x4v3, on a GPU, along with the sound repair. It also keeps the server's logs. A hosting provider processes stored data on the operator's behalf and has access to the infrastructure it provides.

Modal's privacy policy names no country. When checked on September 27, 2026, the servers answering for this site used addresses in the United States; that is what was observed, not a promise about where data stays. Modal runs its containers on several cloud companies' computers around the world, and this deployment does not choose a region, so this notice does not promise that recordings can never reach another provider. Data processed outside your country may be subject to that country's laws.

Cloudflare is the registrar for solipsium.com. It answers visits to that address with a redirect to the Modal address, and forwards mail sent to the support address to the operator. Uploads go to the Modal address, not through Cloudflare.

If paid checkout is enabled, Stripe processes payment information on its own checkout page and sends payment and subscription references back to Solipsium. The public pages load their fonts and artwork, and the video enhancer its code and picture model, from Solipsium's own server.

If you run your own copy of Solipsium, it stores and processes recordings on the computer or server you run it on, and you choose its host, backups and log retention. Its Quick restore sends recordings to Modal only when remote mode is set up, and its page says so.

Deletion and retention

Editor projects and timelines remain until you delete them or close the account. Deleting saved requirements does not alter copies already attached to export reports; those copies go with their project or timeline. Deleting an account removes its recordings, timelines, checks, saved requirements, sessions and API keys and frees the username.

Deletion is refused while processing is running: finish or cancel that work first. Deleting the account also cancels any paid plan at Stripe straight away, with no refund for the rest of its month. Contact the operator if you cannot complete deletion. The account database retains a disabled record under a random replacement name, plus its credit ledger and any payment references. These records, existing logs and analytics are not automatically erased by account deletion.

On each day the site is in use, the account database (usernames, password hashes, session records, credits and purchase records, recording ownership and API key fingerprints) is copied to separate storage at the same host, Modal, and the newest 14 copies are kept. A closed account's details stay in those copies until the copies age out: after 14 copies, which is about two weeks when the site is used every day and longer when it is used less often. If a copy is ever restored, any account closed after that copy was made is closed again. Recordings, repairs and exports are not backed up, and no copy is yet kept outside Modal. Videos sent for server enhancement and the enhanced videos are not backed up either. Keep your own originals; Solipsium is not a backup service.

Your requests and choices

Use the editor and account page to download available files and request deletion. You can also ask the operator for access to personal information, correction, deletion or withdrawal of consent where applicable. The operator may need to verify that the account or recording is yours and will respond within the time required by applicable law, explaining any permitted exception or extension.

You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or another regulator with jurisdiction. Nothing in this notice removes rights that apply where you live.

Security incidents and children

The application uses password hashing, account access checks and request limits. A hosted deployment must configure HTTPS and maintain its server securely. There is no independent security certification or guarantee that a service cannot be breached.

If an incident affects personal information, the operator must assess it, keep required records and notify affected people and regulators when required by law. A website announcement alone may not satisfy those duties. Because signup does not collect an email address, a suitable notification process is still needed, and it is not in place yet.

The service is intended for people aged sixteen or older. If you believe a child has supplied personal information, contact the operator.

Changes to this notice

Material changes will be explained here and, where required, brought to users' attention or presented for renewed consent before the new use begins. October 23, 2026: added more free tools and repair pages. The repair pages use the homepage's drop box; in a browser without a save window, each video tool keeps the last video it made in this site's storage; the old home video and sharpen video pages count presses the way the video enhancer does. The video enhancer's count also names its new Keep grain and Size choices, and the new image upscaler enlarges pictures in your browser without uploading them. October 18, 2026: the video enhancer now also counts each press of Enlarge, with the Picture, Detail, Sharpen and video format choices made, and each click on the offer of Solipsium's servers; nothing from the video is sent. October 17, 2026: added the video enhancer. In your browser it does not upload the video, and its 20-second try sends sound only. Server video enhancement, when enabled, uploads the whole video to Modal, runs the named picture model there and keeps the enhanced video for 24 hours; videos are not used for training and are not backed up. October 15, 2026: added the free browser tools, which do not upload a file chosen on them, and the voice recorder's use of the microphone. October 6, 2026: added the cookie that remembers a browser which signed in, so wrong passwords typed by others cannot lock you out of sign-in. October 4, 2026: the account database is now copied once a day and the newest 14 copies are kept; recordings are still not backed up. October 3, 2026: said that the Solipsium Live extension is not yet published, that security records of failed sign-ins and account changes hold the account's username or ID, and that the Hollywood edit's optional AudioSR rebuild also runs on Modal's GPUs. September 30, 2026: the service moved from pre-alpha to alpha, with no change to how data is handled. September 28, 2026: named Modal as the host and GPU processor, Cloudflare for the domain and support mail, where the servers answered from and that no region is fixed; added the home page's paused light to browser storage. September 25, 2026: added the separate Solipsium Live extension practices. September 22, 2026: added the homepage try (the first 20 seconds of a file, with no account, deleted within an hour). September 19, 2026: corrected hosting, backup, deletion, analytics and cookie descriptions; external API access deferred.
