Enlarge and sharpen a picture.

Your browser makes a photo or drawing twice as wide and tall and sharpens it on your own graphics chip. Strong, slow can make it four times as wide and tall. Your picture is not uploaded, and there is no watermark and no account.

How it works

From your picture to a larger one.

Chrome and Edge can run a neural network on your own graphics chip. This page runs the networks of Solipsium's video enhancer on one picture at a time.

Choose a picture.

A PNG, JPEG or WebP file up to 4096 pixels on its longer side: a photo, a scan, a screenshot or a drawing.

Preview the middle.

Your graphics chip enlarges the middle of the picture, shown beside a plain enlargement, so you can compare settings before the whole picture is made.

Enlarge it and save a PNG.

A neural network makes the picture twice as wide and tall and sharpens edges and fine texture. With Strong, slow's 4x it makes the picture four times as wide and tall. A large picture is enlarged in overlapping parts, one after another.

Questions

Before you choose a picture.

What does enhancing do to a picture?

It makes the picture twice as wide and tall, or four times with Strong, slow's 4x, and sharpens it with a neural network. Enhancement invents detail that was not in the picture, and an enhanced picture is not evidence of what was photographed. Faces, writing and number plates can come out looking unlike the real thing.

Which browsers can enlarge a picture?

Chrome and Edge on a desktop or laptop whose graphics chip supports WebGPU. Other browsers have not been tested. A browser that cannot do it says so as soon as this page opens.

How large a picture can it take?

A PNG, JPEG or WebP file up to 200 MB and 4096 pixels on its longer side; the enlarged picture is at most 8192 pixels a side. 4x takes pictures up to 2048 pixels on the longer side. A picture wider or taller than 724 pixels is enlarged in overlapping parts, one after another, and the bar shows how many parts are done.

What do Filmed, Animation and Detail mean?

Filmed uses networks tuned on filmed clips. Choose it for photos and other pictures from a camera. Quick, Balanced and Most detail are three small networks; a larger one takes longer and needs more of your graphics chip's memory. Strong, slow runs Real-ESRGAN's general network, which is far larger and takes much longer. With Strong, slow you can also choose how much grain to keep, and make the picture four times as wide and tall. Animation uses one network, tuned on drawn pictures with clean lines, for drawings and cartoons.

What file do I get?

A PNG named after your picture, such as Holiday enlarged.png. It is usually a much larger file than the one you chose.

Does it keep a transparent background?

No. Transparent parts of a PNG or WebP come out white.
