SOLIPSIUM Super resolution audio engine

Screen recordings

Clean up the narration of a screen recording.

Drop the recording here. Solipsium checks the voice for fan noise, hum and clipping before it changes anything, and leaves the picture alone.

Drop a screen recording here

Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, hum and noise, without uploading it. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, WAV, MP3 and more, up to five minutes for the check.

Finding the file

Where the computer saved it.

Each tool asks whether to record the microphone. If it did not, there is no voice to repair.

  1. On a Mac.

Shift, Command and 5 opens the screen recording controls; their Options menu chooses the microphone and the folder the recording is saved to.

  2. On Windows.

The Snipping Tool records the screen, and the Xbox Game Bar records a game or an app. Game Bar recordings go to the Captures folder inside Videos.

  3. In a browser tool.

A screen recorder that runs in the browser lets you download the video; drop that file here.

Fault by fault

What a laptop microphone hears, and what is repaired.

The check reads the recording's sound in your browser. The try repairs the first 20 seconds on Solipsium's server.

The fan.

A laptop working hard spins its fan up. A steady floor within 26 dB of the voice gets Full-band speech cleanup, a speech model that keeps the voice's full range and lowers what surrounds it. The result reads: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.”

The charger.

A laptop charging from the mains can add hum, notched out: “Mains hum was found, so it is notched out before any cleanup.”

Typing and clicks.

Keystrokes are short sounds the try leaves. Remove keyboard noise says what the editor can turn down.

A bare room.

Echo reduction runs only when echo is the one thing found, with no steady noise, music, hum, clipping or muffled sound beside it. On a longer recording it works about 20 seconds at a time. The result reads: “Room echo seems to blur the speech, so echo reduction is used.”

Questions

About screen recordings.

Will the picture change?

No. With a free account, the editor repairs the sound while you watch the picture in sync, and a video export keeps the original picture with the repaired track.

System sounds and music in the recording?

Solipsium's free try is built for speech, and its cleanup may remove music and other sounds along with the noise. The editor's note reads: “Targets hiss in speech. Check quiet or distant voices; may remove music and ambience.”

A WebM file from a browser recorder?

WebM files open in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. WebM to MP4 converts one for apps that want an MP4.

A long tutorial?

The editor takes videos of up to 30 minutes and 1 GB. Cut a longer one with the video trimmer.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends those 20 seconds; when your browser could not open the file, or it runs over five minutes, the file itself goes to Solipsium's server, so the try is offered for it only up to 25 MB. Solipsium keeps only the first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. The privacy notice has the rest.
