Tracks
OBS can record several sound tracks in one file. Browsers read only a video's first sound track, so the track order decides what this page hears.
In OBS's advanced audio properties, put the microphone alone on the first track and the game or the desktop on another. The check then hears the voice by itself.
MKV to MP4 copies the picture into an MP4 with the sound track you pick, so a voice on another track can be moved first.
Extract audio from video saves the first sound track as an MP3 or WAV, which is smaller to send.
Fault by fault
The check reads the recording's sound in your browser and names background noise, mains hum, clipping, dropouts and muffled sound. The try repairs the first 20 seconds on Solipsium's server.
A gaming computer next to the microphone is a steady floor. A steady floor within 26 dB of the voice gets Full-band speech cleanup, a speech model that keeps the voice's full range and lowers what surrounds it. The result reads: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.”
A ground loop between an interface, a mixer and the computer puts hum at 50 or 60 Hz and its multiples into the voice. It is notched out: “Mains hum was found, so it is notched out before any cleanup.”
A gain set for talking clips when you shout. Flat tops up to 10 ms long are partly raised back from the undamaged samples around them, never more than 2.3 dB over the clip level. A top that is unsafe to raise is left exactly as it was.
Solipsium's free try is built for speech, and its cleanup may remove music and game sound along with the noise. The editor's note reads: “Targets hiss in speech. Check quiet or distant voices; may remove music and ambience.”
Questions
It cleans the voice live, before it is saved. The repair here works on the file afterwards and measures whatever noise is left, so both can be used. A noise filter that cuts too hard live cannot be undone later; a repair on a file can be compared and discarded.
No. With a free account, the editor repairs the sound while you watch the picture in sync, and a video export keeps the original picture with the repaired track. It leaves out any other sound tracks.
The editor takes videos and recordings of up to 30 minutes and 1 GB. Cut the part you need with the video trimmer, or take the sound out and split it.
MKV videos open in Chrome when their sound is AAC, Opus, Vorbis, MP3 or FLAC, and not when it is AC-3 or DTS. OBS records AAC unless you chose otherwise.
Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends those 20 seconds; when your browser could not open the file, or it runs over five minutes, the file itself goes to Solipsium's server, so the try is offered for it only up to 25 MB. Solipsium keeps only the first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. The privacy notice has the rest.
