SOLIPSIUM Super resolution audio engine

Voice over

Clean up a voice over take before you deliver it.

Drop the take here. Solipsium measures its room noise, hum and clipping in your browser before it changes anything.

Drop a take here

Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, hum and noise, without uploading it. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.

WAV, MP3, M4A, MP4 and more, up to five minutes for the check.

The brief

Read what the client asks for first.

Many clients mix the voice themselves and want it as it was recorded.

  1. Dry or cleaned?

A brief that asks for a dry or raw file wants the take with no processing. Send that, and offer a cleaned copy beside it.

  2. The format.

Match the sample rate the brief names with the sample rate converter, and the bit depth with the bit depth converter.

  3. The level.

Where a loudness target is named, normalize audio sets it, and the loudness checker reads the result.

Fault by fault

What a home studio leaves, and what is repaired.

The try repairs the first 20 seconds on Solipsium's server and lists a reason for each step.

The room.

A steady floor within 26 dB of the voice gets Full-band speech cleanup, a speech model that keeps the voice's full range and lowers what surrounds it. The result reads: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.”

The interface.

Mains hum from a ground loop is notched out in bands 3 Hz wide: “Mains hum was found, so it is notched out before any cleanup.”

A peak that clipped.

Flat tops up to 10 ms long are partly raised back from the undamaged samples around them, never more than 2.3 dB over the clip level. A top that is unsafe to raise is left exactly as it was.

Pops, clicks and s sounds.

The free try leaves these. In the editor, with a free account, the pop tool, the Clicks button and the s tool each work on a passage you choose.

Questions

About voice over takes.

Will cleanup change the sound of my voice?

It can. The editor's note on Full-band speech cleanup reads: “Targets hiss in speech. Check quiet or distant voices; may remove music and ambience.” Compare Original and Repaired on the same words before you send it.

Several takes?

Check each take on its own, and repair the one you choose. The audio joiner puts chosen pieces one after another.

Does it add room tone or effects?

No. The repair lowers noise and notches hum; it never adds reverb, music or room tone.

A long narration?

The check in your browser reads up to five minutes, and the editor imports up to 30 minutes and 1 GB at a time with a free account. Cut a longer recording into parts with the audio splitter and repair each part.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends those 20 seconds; when your browser could not open the file, or it runs over five minutes, the file itself goes to Solipsium's server, so the try is offered for it only up to 25 MB. Solipsium keeps only the first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. The privacy notice has the rest.
