SOLIPSIUM Super resolution audio engine

Discord

Clean up a Discord call recording.

Drop a recorded voice channel here, one person's track or the whole mix. Solipsium measures noise, hum, holes and clipping first, and names what it found.

Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, hum and noise, without uploading it. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.

WAV, MP3, M4A, MP4 and more, up to five minutes for the check.

Recording

A track for each voice, if you can.

Discord has no record button of its own. People record a voice channel with a recording bot or with screen recording software.

  1. Ask everyone first.

Tell the people in the channel before you record, and follow your server's rules.

  2. Keep a track per speaker.

Some recording bots save each speaker as a file of their own. Repair each one on its own: a noisy room on one track then stays out of the others.

  3. Or record the mix.

Screen recording software such as OBS can record the call's sound as one file. Everyone's noise is then in one track, and is repaired together.

Fault by fault

What a voice channel brings, and what is repaired.

The check in your browser names background noise, mains hum, clipping, dropouts and muffled sound, with their times. The try repairs the first 20 seconds on Solipsium's server.

A member's room.

A fan or a computer near someone's microphone is a steady floor. A steady floor within 26 dB of the voice gets Full-band speech cleanup, a speech model that keeps the voice's full range and lowers what surrounds it. The result reads: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.”

Hum from a headset or an interface.

A ground loop at someone's desk puts mains hum at 50 or 60 Hz and its multiples into their voice. It is notched out in bands 3 Hz wide: “Mains hum was found, so it is notched out before any cleanup.”

Holes from lost packets.

A lost packet that left exact digital silence of 100 ms or less, with sudden edges, is filled by continuing the voice's pitch from each side: “Short holes of lost audio were found, so they are filled from nearby sound.” When the app smoothed the loss over, there is no hole to fill.

A microphone set too hot.

Shouting at a game flattens the peaks. Flat tops up to 10 ms long are partly raised back from the undamaged samples around them, never more than 2.3 dB over the clip level. A top that is unsafe to raise is left exactly as it was.

Questions

About Discord recordings.

The voice sounds robotic. Can that be fixed?

A robotic or warbling voice comes from a bad connection and has no silent hole, so the gap filler leaves it. Only holes of exact digital silence are filled.

Should I turn off Discord's own noise suppression?

That is a choice for the next call. Noise suppression during the call removes noise live; the repair here works on the file afterwards, and measures whatever noise is left.

Why does one person sound muffled?

A low channel bitrate or a Bluetooth headset can cut the treble. The check shows where the sound stops. A track that stops under about 5.4 kHz is treated like a phone line and can get its treble rebuilt, labelled inferred.

Can I put the tracks back together?

Yes. The audio joiner puts recordings one after another; tracks that play at the same time need an editor that mixes them.

A whole night of gaming?

The check reads up to five minutes and the editor imports up to 30 minutes at a time, so cut the session into parts with the audio splitter.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends those 20 seconds; when your browser could not open the file, or it runs over five minutes, the file itself goes to Solipsium's server, so the try is offered for it only up to 25 MB. Solipsium keeps only the first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. The privacy notice has the rest.
