Cut the low rumble under a voice with a high-pass filter.

Choose where the filter starts and how steeply it cuts. Your browser turns down the sound below it and keeps the rest. Nothing is uploaded.

Which corner

Below the voice, above the rumble.

The corner is where the filter has turned the sound down by 3 dB. Below it, the cut deepens with every octave.

60 to 80 Hz.

Takes rumble, traffic and handling thumps and keeps a deep voice whole.

100 to 120 Hz.

Suits most speaking voices, and cuts the boom of a microphone held close.

150 Hz.

Thins a voice a little, for a phone-like or crowded recording where the lows are all noise.

How it works

Butterworth filters, flat above the corner.

A Butterworth filter leaves the sound above its corner as flat as a filter can.

  1. Choose the corner.

    From 60 to 150 Hz.

  2. Choose the slope.

Gentle cuts 12 dB for each octave lower; steep, 24 dB, with two filters in a row.

  3. Save it.

As an MP3 at 192 kbps or a 16-bit WAV, at the file's own sample rate.

Questions

About high-pass filters.

How is this different from the rumble repair?

The free try's rumble step measures the low band and turns each part of it down by how much rumble it holds, only when rumble is found. This filter cuts everything below the corner you choose, every time.

Will it remove hum?

It lowers hum at 50 or 60 Hz when the corner is above it, but the harmonics above the corner stay. Remove hum and buzz notches the harmonics too.

Music?

Bass instruments live below 100 Hz. On music, keep the corner at 60 Hz or below, or leave the low end alone.

Is it the same as a low cut?

Yes. A high-pass and a low cut are two names for the same filter.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. Your browser opens the file and does the work on this device; nothing is sent to Solipsium. Checking a recording for noise, hum and clipping is another page: the home page checks it in your browser too.
