Set each band from -12 to +12 dB. Your browser changes the tone and keeps the peaks under -1 dBFS, and says when it had to turn the whole file down. Nothing is uploaded.

The three bands
Each band is one filter from the Audio EQ Cookbook, the formulas most equalizers are built on.
A shelf at 100 Hz: everything below rises or falls together. Warmth, or boom to remove.
A wide band around 1 kHz: where a voice sits forward or back.
A shelf at 8 kHz: air and sparkle, or harshness to soften.
Peaks
Raising a band raises the peaks with it.
Whole decibels, from -12 to +12. A band at 0 is left out.
When the result would pass -1 dBFS, the whole file is turned down until its loudest peak sits there, and the result says by how much.
As an MP3 at 192 kbps or a 16-bit WAV, at the file's own sample rate.
Questions
It can lift what is still there. Sound a phone line or a low bitrate cut off is gone, and raising the treble raises only the hiss above it. The home page's check says where a recording's sound stops.
Raising a band raised the peaks, and the whole file was turned down to keep them under -1 dBFS. Normalize it afterwards to set its loudness.
Lower the bass, or use the high-pass filter, which cuts below a corner you choose.
Yes. The result plays on the page, up to five minutes long.
No. Your browser opens the file and does the work on this device; nothing is sent to Solipsium. Checking a recording for noise, hum and clipping is another page: the home page checks it in your browser too.
