SOLIPSIUM Super resolution audio engine

Transcription

Clean up a recording before you transcribe it.

Drop the recording here. Solipsium checks its noise, hum, holes and clipping in your browser, so you know what a transcriber will hear.

Drop a recording here

Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, hum and noise, without uploading it. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.

WAV, MP3, M4A, MP4 and more, up to five minutes for the check.

What a repair changes

It lowers what surrounds the words.

Solipsium does not write transcripts. It repairs the sound a transcriber, a person or a program, will listen to.

Steady noise.

A steady floor within 26 dB of the voice gets Full-band speech cleanup, a speech model that keeps the voice's full range and lowers what surrounds it. The result reads: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.”

Hum.

Mains hum is notched out in bands 3 Hz wide: “Mains hum was found, so it is notched out before any cleanup.”

Holes.

Exact silence up to 100 ms is filled as an estimate: “Short holes of lost audio were found, so they are filled from nearby sound.”

Other voices.

Chatter behind the speaker gets speech cleanup: “Other voices seem to sit behind the speaker, so speech cleanup is used.”

Send both

Keep the original beside the repair.

Solipsium has not measured how its repairs change a transcription program's results. Try both copies.

  1. Transcribe the original first.

Many programs clean the sound themselves. Their result on the original is the one to beat.

  2. Then the repaired copy.

Compare the two transcripts where the original was hard to follow.

  3. Check the filled holes.

A filled hole is an estimate of sound, not of words. Where a word fell in a hole, the transcript should mark it unclear.

Questions

About transcription.

Will the repair make the transcript more accurate?

That has not been measured here. Try the original and the repaired copy, and keep the transcript that reads truer.

Can it fill in a word that was lost?

No. A hole of exact silence up to 100 ms is filled with an estimate of sound from each side, never a word.

Does Solipsium transcribe?

No. It repairs sound only.

A long interview?

The check in your browser reads up to five minutes, and the editor imports up to 30 minutes and 1 GB at a time with a free account. Cut a longer recording into parts with the audio splitter and repair each part.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends those 20 seconds; when your browser could not open the file, or it runs over five minutes, the file itself goes to Solipsium's server, so the try is offered for it only up to 25 MB. Solipsium keeps only the first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. The privacy notice has the rest.
