SOLIPSIUM Super resolution audio engine

Security cameras

Clean up the sound of a security or doorbell camera clip.

Download the clip from the camera's app and drop it here. Solipsium checks where its sound stops, its wind and its noise before it changes anything.

Drop a camera clip here

Solipsium checks it in your browser for clipping, hum and noise, without uploading it. It can then repair the first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, WAV, MP3 and more, up to five minutes for the check.

The clip

Start from the camera's own download.

Most camera apps let the owner save a clip as an MP4. That file holds the sound as the camera recorded it.

  1. Download, do not film the screen.

A phone filming another screen records the room it is in. The app's download keeps the camera's own sound.

  2. Keep the original clip.

Work on a copy. A repaired copy is a changed file, and anything added to it is labelled inferred.

  3. See where the sound stops.

Some cameras record sound at a low rate to save space. The check shows where your clip's sound stops.

Fault by fault

What an outdoor camera hears, and what is repaired.

The try repairs the first 20 seconds of the clip's sound on Solipsium's server and lists a reason for each step.

Sound recorded at a low rate.

A clip whose sound stops under about 5.4 kHz sounds like a phone line. With nothing else found, the treble is rebuilt: “Little sound was found above 4 kHz, like a phone line. The treble is rebuilt from the sound below it, which is kept as it was. What is added is inferred.” A clip whose sound stops near 8 kHz gets the 16 kHz rebuild: “The recording seems to have been saved at 16 kHz, so nothing is left above 8 kHz. The treble is rebuilt from the sound below it, which is kept as it was. What is added is inferred.”

Wind.

Steady low wind is rumble, turned down last when no cleanup ran: “Low rumble was found under the voice, so after every other step the steady noise below 300 Hz is turned down towards the recording's own quiet level, with one fixed curve for the whole recording; where the recording is much louder than the rumble at a frequency, that frequency keeps nearly all of its level.”

Street and fan noise.

A steady floor within 26 dB of the voice is cleaned: “A steady noise floor was found, so it is removed.”

What cannot come back.

Words spoken far from the camera, or under a gust, were never clearly recorded. A repair can lower what surrounds them; it cannot write them.

Questions

About camera clips.

Can it make out what someone said?

It can lower noise and rebuild a narrow band's treble as an estimate. It does not write speech, and it cannot recover words that the microphone did not pick up. Listen to Original and Repaired on the same moment.

Is a repaired clip still evidence?

A repaired clip is a changed copy, and any rebuilt treble is labelled inferred. Keep the original download unchanged and ask whoever needs the clip which copy they want.

Will the picture change?

No. With a free account, a video export keeps the original picture with the repaired sound track.

My clip will not open.

MP4 files open in Chrome and Firefox, and usually in Edge and Safari. When your browser cannot open the clip, the try can still send it whole, up to 25 MB.

Is my recording uploaded?

Not for the check, which runs in your browser. Pressing Repair the first 20 seconds sends those 20 seconds; when your browser could not open the file, or it runs over five minutes, the file itself goes to Solipsium's server, so the try is offered for it only up to 25 MB. Solipsium keeps only the first 20 seconds and deletes them within an hour. If you are signed in, a file you drop or choose is uploaded to your account and opens in the editor instead. The privacy notice has the rest.
