Pick up to 30 seconds of a recording, fade the ends and save it as an MP3 or an M4R in your browser. The steps below put the MP3 on an iPhone or an Android phone as its ringtone.
Drop a recording here
Your browser cuts the ringtone on this device. The file is not uploaded.
MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus or WebM, up to 30 minutes or 200 MB.
The MP3 is 192 kbps and is the file the phone steps below use. Both keep the cut and the fades you hear.
How it works
The fades keep the ringtone from starting or stopping on a click.
It is decoded by your browser's own decoder at 44.1 kHz. Move Start, or type it to a tenth of a second, and set the length from 1 to 30 seconds.
A fade in rises from silence and a fade out falls back to it, each in a straight line of up to 3 seconds. Neither takes more than half of the ringtone. Play it to hear exactly what will be saved.
The M4R is made by your browser's own AAC encoder and written with mediabunny. The MP3 is made with lamejs, a JavaScript port of LAME, under the GNU LGPL. A recording with more than two channels is folded into stereo.
mediabunny 1.61.1 is under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and served exactly as it is published; its source is on GitHub and its licence is here.
On your phone
On an iPhone, Apple's own route for a custom ringtone goes through GarageBand, which imports MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF files. On Android, Files by Google has a Set as ringtone menu for an audio file.
Open this page on the iPhone and save the MP3 there, or copy it into the Files app from a computer.
On the Home screen, touch and hold the GarageBand icon until its menu appears, then tap Create New Audio Recording. If the iPhone has no GarageBand, it is on the App Store.
Tap the Tracks button, tap the instrument icon on the left to select the track, then tap the Loops Browser button. Tap Files, then Browse items from the Files app. Touch and hold the file and drag it all the way to the left in the Tracks view. If only part of it comes in, set the song section's length to Automatic and bring it in again.
Tap the Navigation button, then My Songs. Tap the More button, tap Select and select the song you just made. Tap the Share button, then Ringtone, give it a name and tap Export.
Tap Use sound as, then Standard Ringtone, Standard Text Tone, or Assign to contact to give it to one person.
Open this page on the phone and save the MP3 there, or copy it over from a computer.
Under Categories, tap Audio, then find the file and play it.
On the permission dialog, tap Continue, then turn on Allow modify system settings.
The steps follow Apple's and Google's own help pages as they read on October 23, 2026. Menus change between versions.
Questions
Apple's steps for a custom ringtone say ringtones can be up to 30 seconds long, and GarageBand shortens a longer one by itself. Cutting here lets you choose which 30 seconds ring.
The M4R is AAC sound in an MP4 file, the same as an M4A, with the .m4r ending. For the GarageBand steps above, use the MP3, which is on GarageBand's import list.
The M4R needs an AAC encoder in your browser. When the browser has none, or its encoder fails on the recording, the page saves an MP3 and says so under the buttons.
Yes, once it is saved as a file. Save a voicemail shows how on an iPhone and on Android. Many Android phones save voicemails as AMR, which does not open in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, so use an M4A or MP3 copy here.
Use the MP3 and the Files by Google steps above. A phone maker's own file app may name the menus differently.
No. Your browser opens the recording, cuts it and writes the ringtone on this device. This page sends no audio to Solipsium.
Drop a voice memo or voicemail on the family recordings page. The check runs in your browser, and you can hear its first 20 seconds repaired.
The check and the 20-second try need no account.
