MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus or WebM, up to 30 minutes or 200 MB.
The MP3 is 192 kbps. The WAV keeps 16-bit samples in a larger file.
How it works
A recording is a long row of samples, 44,100 a second on this page. Reversing writes that row in the opposite order, so the last moment plays first. Each channel is reversed on its own, so the left side stays on the left.
It is decoded by your browser's own decoder at 44.1 kHz, and the page draws it as bars.
With Start and End at the two ends, the whole recording plays backwards. Move them closer and only the part between them is reversed. Play then starts a second before that part and stops a second after it, so you hear where it sits.
The MP3 is made with lamejs, a JavaScript port of LAME, under the GNU LGPL, and folds more than two channels into stereo. The WAV keeps every channel.
Questions
Yes. Move Start and End to the part you want. Only that part plays backwards, and the saved file keeps the rest of the recording around it as it was.
Reversing changes only the order of the samples. The WAV keeps them as 16-bit samples. The MP3 compresses the sound again at 192 kbps, which loses a little, so save the WAV if you will edit it further.
Save the video's sound first with Extract audio from a video, reverse it here, then put it back with Add audio to a video.
Spoken sounds start sharply and die away. A t or a k is a short burst, and a vowel fades out. Played backwards, each fade becomes a swell and each burst lands at the end of a sound, so words come out as swells that stop suddenly.
Whatever your browser's own decoder opens. WAV, MP3, FLAC and WebM open in every current browser, and M4A, Ogg and Opus in most. AMR, the format many Android phones save voicemails in, does not open in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
No. Your browser opens the recording, reverses it and writes the new file on this device. This page sends no audio to Solipsium.
