How it works
From your video to a silent copy.
A video file keeps its picture and its sound in separate tracks. This page writes a new file that holds the picture track and nothing else.
The picture is copied.
Its packets move into the new file unchanged. Nothing is decoded or compressed again, so the picture keeps its quality.
The new file is written.
An H.264, HEVC, VP9 or AV1 picture goes into an MP4. A VP8 picture stays in WebM or MKV, and ProRes in MOV, the containers they usually come in. Every sound track stays behind.

Does the picture change?
No. The size, frame rate and colour stay as they were.
Can I keep the sound as a file?
Yes, with the extract audio page, which saves a video's sound as MP3 or WAV in your browser. Do that first if you want both.
Can I put other sound in?
The add audio page puts a recording under a video's picture and copies the picture the same way.
Which videos go in?
MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM files with an H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, VP8 or ProRes picture. A picture in any other format is refused with a sentence that says so.
How large is the new file?
About the size of the original less its sound. In Chrome and Edge the copy is written straight into a file you choose; another browser keeps it in its storage for this site, or in its memory, which holds about 200 MB.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the video and writes the copy on your device. This page sends nothing from the video to Solipsium, not even its name.
