Free audio tool
Save a voice note, Opus or OGG file as an MP3 that plays almost anywhere.
Drop a voice note here
It is converted to MP3 in your browser, without uploading it. Solipsium then checks a note of up to five minutes for noise and can repair its first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.
Opus, OGG, M4A, WebM, AAC, MP3 or WAV (CAF in Safari), up to 15 minutes.
An MP3 leaves out some sound to stay small, and so does Opus, so converting loses a little more. A higher bitrate keeps that small; a WAV adds no MP3 loss but is several times larger. MP3 files are made with lamejs, a JavaScript port of LAME, under the GNU LGPL.
After signing up, drop the same file into the editor to repair all of it.
Then drop the same file into the editor. Scans and short repairs are free.

How it works
Your browser does the converting. Audio goes to Solipsium only if you press Repair the first 20 seconds.
Your browser's own decoder reads the note. Opus and OGG files open in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 27; an older Safari may not open them.
The sound is saved at 44.1 kHz as a constant 192 kbps MP3, or at another bitrate you choose, or as a 16-bit WAV.
A note of up to five minutes is also checked in your browser for noise, hum, clipping and muffled sound, and Solipsium can repair its first 20 seconds for you to hear, with no account.
Questions
In a folder called WhatsApp Voice Notes, inside WhatsApp's Media folder, sorted into folders by date. On many phones the path is Android, media, com.whatsapp, WhatsApp, Media. Copy the one note you want and leave the folder in place. Folder names vary by phone and app version.
Press and hold it, tap Forward, then tap the Share button at the bottom right and choose Save to Files.
Opus is the format WhatsApp saves voice notes in, and many music players and older programs do not open it. An MP3 plays almost anywhere, so convert the note here.
A little. Both formats leave out sound to stay small, so a second conversion loses a bit more. Choose 192 kbps or more, or save a WAV, which is larger but adds no MP3 loss.
Not to convert it: the MP3 or WAV is made in your browser, and the check runs there too. Audio goes to Solipsium only when you press Repair the first 20 seconds. If the check opened a mono or stereo note here, only its first 20 seconds are sent. Otherwise, as when this browser cannot read the format or the note is over five minutes, the whole file is sent, up to 25 MB, and Solipsium keeps only its first 20 seconds. The words next to the button say which. Either way they are deleted within an hour.
Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot open AMR sound, which many Android voicemails and some 3GP files carry, so this page cannot convert those files in them. Solipsium's server can open them: drop one here and the free try can send it whole, up to 25 MB, and repair its first 20 seconds for you to hear.
On the family recordings page, Solipsium checks a voicemail or voice note for noise, hum and clipping, and with a free account you repair the seconds that are hard to hear.
The check and the 20-second try need no account.
